Our client bought this apartment as a home away from home for frequent business trips to Berlin. We didn’t meet in person once throughout the project — Germany went into lockdown just as work commenced, travel had ceased and our client had to make do with photos and videos.
We set out to create a light-filled, airy and understated space, made for peace and quiet. Some remodelling was in order. The apartment is filled with hues of olive, cream and sand, with oak, linen and wool textures, and black metallic elements for contrast.
Intense colour was reserved for the bathroom. The contrast between the sophisticated red of the walls and ceiling and the neutral grey of the tiles evokes completely different feelings.
To preserve functionality and ease of access, we placed the controls panels for the underfloor heating and home electronics inside the wardrobe in the bedroom.
The owner ordered the kitchen when he bought the apartment, before we met. After it was installed we decided to change the counter tops and handles to make it consistent with the rest of the design. All other furniture and metal frames are custom-built using our designs.
